Michelle spent many hours at Meetup last fall manning the ‘Calibration Station’. She helped a bunch of people that day, but we’ve seen the question come up over and over in the Grads group so we asked her if she’d be willing to help us out with a Master Class. (spoiler – she said ‘yes’)
Why would you even want to calibrate your lens?
Some never have and do just fine that way. If you’re noticing that you’re consistently missing focus even though you’re sure you’re not changing the focal plane when recomposing or you’re toggling focal points and still consistently missing focus, testing and then calibrating if needed might be really helpful to you. Even a little adjustment can make a difference in the sharpness of your pics, so it probably wouldn’t hurt anyone to give calibration a try.
In this first video, Michelle demonstrates how to use a calibration pyramid to calibrate a lens in camera.
